Brass wine racks - a quality decor statement.
Brass wine racks are a great way to store your precious bottles. They add
that very special look and feel to your rooms that only brass racks can.
Brass wine racks come in all shapes and sizes, that can fit in any room and any
budget. Some racks can sit on the counter, while others are so huge that they
fill up an entire corner of the room. You will come across a rack that
holds one - just one - bottle of wine. There are also racks that can accomodate
upto one hundred sixty - truly a storage mammoth.
A brass wine rack can be plain angular - suitable for formal and spartan
settings, where the rest of the decor demands straight lines. In more casual
surroundings, you can install a rack that has lots of curves and is very stylish
in its looks.
While choosing a location to install, there are a few points that should be
borne in mind. Your brass wine rack should be kept away from direct sunlight -
this could affect the chemical reactions that keep going on continuously in
a live wine. The rack should also be kept away from vibrations - the top of a
refrigerator is definitely a no-no! Vibrations too come in the way of graceful
ageing that wines undergo as a natural process. Also, there should not be much
fluctuation in the ambient temperature where the rack is going
to be kept - if, while there is a cool breeze wafting around, a hot blast of air
replaces it when the kitchen door swings - then you know that the wines wont
last long. Also, by nature, brass gets warmer quickly, and can transfer this
high temperature to the content of the bottles. Such racks
should therefore be kept in cooler climes more so.
The bottles in a brass wine rack should be positioned horizontally. There are
two reasons for this. One, it keeps the cork moist, which otherwise could let
dry air into the bottle after drying up. The second is that, as a natural
process, wines cause sedimentation to be formed over time. This sedimentation
should not reach the glasses when poured. There are racks in the market which
cause the bottles to be hung bottom-up, which, though keeping the corks moist,
have a disadvantage of causing the sediments to accumulate near the cork itself.
If you happen to own such a rack, it would be prudent to let the bottle sit
upright for about a couple of hours before decanting.
A brass wine rack is a joy to behold if properly placed in the room. It imparts
an other-worldly feeling to the decor which perhaps few other interiors can.
