Free standing wine racks : proudly displaying your
collection.
After falling in love with wine, one makes it a life's passion to go around
collecting those precious liquids from as far and wide as one can afford to
reach. While the tidy collection is growing, comes the issue of storing them,
and not just haphazardly. It is here that free standing wine racks come in the
picture, as an elegant method to not only store them, but even decorate the room
in the process.
Free standing wine racks are made from wood or metal. Among popularly used wood
varieties are Mahogany, Pine, solid Oak, Redwood and Cedar. Iron wine racks are
more sturdy, and come in quite ornate designs too. They can be
polished to any desired finish, and are thus quite a favorite to the discerning
user.
Your free standing wine rack should ideally be placed in a room where there are
no sudden temperature fluctuations involved. Does the door swing too often,
bringing with it drafts of air from outside? Then this room is not a candidate
for hosting the rack. The rack should also not be kept
near the stove, nor should it come under the gaze of the sun directly. The floor
where it is standing upon should be as vibration-free as possible, since
vibrations disturb the very delicate chemical reactions that the wines seem to
be negotiating through, all the time. These are but a few very
important issues that are required to be borne in mind, if one is concerned
about preserving and maintaining the quality, nay, life of those precious
liquids.
Another point worth considering is that the way the wine racks hold the wine
bottles. The optimal holding position is horizontal. This gives the individual
corks a touch of the wine, too; more seriously, they remain moist.
The moistness empowers the corks to keep the outside air from entering the
bottles. The horizontal position also prevents the sediments that naturally get
created in the wine from accumulating near the cork. If you happen to have a
free standing rack that holds the bottles by their base, then it would be wise
to let the bottle sit upright for at least a couple of hours before decanting.
This gives the sediments time to settle down at the bottom of the bottle, and be
out of harm's way.
A free standing wine rack enhances the interiors of the room it stands in. It
makes a statement of its owner having arrived on the world scene with a quiet
dignity that few other furniture pieces and artefacts can boast of.
