Shiraz Wine is known for its spicy taste with plum, blackberry and peppery flavors. Shiraz grapes, most widely planted grape variety in Australia, are used to create the world famous Grange Hermitage.

The first cuttings of Shiraz had been made in to 1832 in Australia, probably with James Busby and were incorrectly labeled Scyras, which is a popular northern Rhone Valley variety. Grosse Syrah and Petite Syrah are other variances of the Shiraz branch. The only difference is the size of berries.

Shiraz Wine is produced by giving additional notice to aroma and taste. It often comes with extra notes of bitter chocolate, mocha and licorice. Even temperature effects Shiraz as warmer temperatures produce a more mellow flavors while cooler temperatures brings out spicy ones. Shiraz can be made into a range of styles, defined by the terrigenous qualities of the region and the winemakers' artistry.

Various regions are producing Shiraz includes Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Hunter Valley. Australia produces 40% of world’s total Shiraz production. The Barossa Valley, stretching from the outskirts of Adelaide north to Nuritoopa, is famous more particularly for Shiraz wine like the Barossa Shiraz 2000, P. Lehmann Blackwell Shiraz 1998 St Hallett, The Octavius 1997 Yalumba, Filsell Old Vine Shiraz 2000 Grant Burge, and Apricot Block Shiraz 1995 Greenoch Creek, which are enjoyed a lot by wine enthusiasts worldwide.

It is more relished in hot climate with its earthy aromas of green pepper, tobacco, raisins etc. One of the finest Syrah/Shiraz Wine produces in the Lodi Region of California’s Sutter Home. Sutter Home’s 2000 Shiraz has an aroma of fresh black raspberries with spicy flavor of violets and sandalwood.
